Countless people are making a conscious choice to be happy every single day.
Could it really be that simple?
Is happiness really available to anyone? Can you be happy whenever you want to be?
The answer is yes - let me show you how to create fertile ground in which to create happiness.
What is True Happiness?
Happiness can mean something else to different people.
To me, it means being at peace with things, to have an overall sense of well-being, and to experience more joy.
It’s knowing that your life is contributing to something greater than yourself, and it’s meaningful.
It’s not a high that is then taken over by a low, that will then have you bouncing off the walls waiting for the next high; that kind of “happiness” is based purely on circumstances, and will always leave you dissatisfied (and unhappy) between highs.
To you, it could mean something completely different.
Two Mistakes People Make when it Comes to Happiness
-> Mistake #1: Linking Happiness to Things Outside Ourselves
The first huge mistake most people make when it comes to happiness is believing our happiness totally depends on all those things outside ourselves.
The size of our house, the amount of money we have in the bank, having the perfect partner, the promotion we just received at work, attention from friends and family, new clothes, vacation, furniture, or jewelry.
If everything goes just right, then you’re happy. But it has to be just right!
Even if it goes “just right”, a person who isn’t happy without these perfect circumstances, won’t be happy for long even with them.
-> Mistake #2: Believing We Can’t Influence Our Happiness
The second mistake people often make is believing humans have no influence over our own happiness whatsoever.
Here’s what happens…
As your circumstances change, you get used to them over time. In the long run, circumstances don’t really make that much of a difference in your happiness levels. So, happiness is something we have to bring to the party ourselves, and not make depend on our circumstances.
Stop Making Those Mistakes.
Depending on the perfect circumstances for your happiness is like shooting craps in Vegas, and that’s a poor strategy for something as important as a Happy Life! It’s the only life you’re going to get.
If you’re willing to believe that happiness is your own choice, something you self-generate and bring with you, you’re ready to work on it…
Daily Practices that Help us Choose Happiness
There are certain factors that influence whether or not we’ll choose happiness as our default.
Below, you’ll find a number of daily practices that can tilt the scales in your favor to choose to be happy every day.
Let’s call it “creating fertile ground” in which happiness tends to appear.
Contribute to something or someone other than yourself. It’s in serving others that we come in contact with our highest happiest selves.
Practice Gratitude. Appreciate your life for exactly as it is today. Be grateful for all you have right now. Gratitude is a major contributing factor for the appearance of happiness.
Focus on the present moment. The past belongs in the past, and the future hasn’t come yet, so stay Present.
Surround yourself with people who truly love you, and you can count on.
Spend some time each day in stillness connecting to your deeper intuition and True Nature. That part of yourself that knows everything is okay.
Contemplate the fact that your circumstances (whether for the better or worse) have no effect over you. The only meaning they have is the one you give them.
And lastly, Just Choose to Be Happy!
