Jim Rohn was a world famous motivational speaker and personal development coach. He died in 2009 at the age of 79. He was worth $500,000,000.
When I met him, he told me you don’t have to worry about being great at a hundred things. He said it’s only a few things that make a huge difference. Not a hundred things…just a few things!
Your health, your relationships, your prosperity, your connection to a higher power…a few things.
Why It’s Important To Identify Your Most Important Thing
Hal Elrod is the author of the best-selling book, “The Miracle Morning”.
He says, “to decide on your mission, simply look over all your goals and then ask yourself: Which One of these goals would enable me to become the person I need to be to achieve everything else I want in my life. The answer to that question is your mission.”
People excel at what’s Most Important to them. One goal creates focus. You don’t get lost in sea of conflicting decision-making, not knowing where to spend your time, effort, and money.
What is the one Most Important Thing that would make the biggest impact on your life?
Is it in line with your vision, purpose, and values?
Until you identify it, you’re left without a compass upon which to make decisions and choose direction. As Alexander Hamilton said, “If you don’t stand for something, you’ll fall for anything.”
Identifying it is only the first part of the process…
This Is The Second Most Important Thing
The second most important thing is to get into Action!
You can’t just sit around thinking about it and hoping for it. Now you have to take action, for it to have the biggest impact on your life!
Jim Rohn would always say, “You have to make measurable progress in reasonable time.”
Focusing on one most important thing allows you to choose one path, a clear process to get there, and the ability to measure whether or not you’re on the right track. If you find you’re not on the right track, you can adjust your actions quickly and early on in the process.
That which you’ve chosen as your most important thing becomes your new identity. The narrative that goes on in your head, on a daily basis, is now driven by it. It now becomes very clear and therefore very easy to make decisions, because all you have to ask yourself is, “Will this get me closer to or take me further away from my goal”?
Your Secret Weapon To Get You There
It’s truly very simple, whatever you see in your life right now is what you’re committed to. It’s not having a mild interest in seeing it happen, but the, “you’ll either see me at the top of the mountain waving the flag, or dead on the side of the mountain”, kind of commitment!
Being committed is absolutely critical to sustain action, and just getting into action, even if everything isn’t perfect, will create the momentum you need to keep going!
