If you’re not 100 percent responsible for your own life, Who Is?!
One of my mentors asked me, “What’s preventing you from having the life you really want?” I proceeded to make a list that contained the economy, my boss, the government, my job, my family, the weather, high taxes, high prices, my company, and on and on it went.
He reviewed my list, looked at me, and said, “There’s one problem with your list, You’re not on it!”
Be 100 Percent Responsible
The biggest obstacle to experiencing the life you really want is caused by not taking 100 percent responsibility for your own life. Unless you’ve seen someone else creating your life (and this isn’t likely if you’re past childhood), you’re the only one responsible for the life you see—completely and totally.
Trust me, you don’t want your life based on reasons and excuses of why you can’t have the life you want because of your circumstances. You must take responsibility for creating the life you really want, regardless of the circumstances.
Winston Churchill said, “The price of greatness is responsibility.”
If you’re willing to take a stand and be fully accountable for your life and business, everything will change for the better. Taking ownership of your life—the good, bad, and indifferent—will let you create a life of power, freedom, and full self expression. One of your own creation!
You are the co-creator of every moment of every day. Responsible people create their own lives. Things don’t just happen out of thin air. Only victims believe things are out of control and just happen to them.
The Fault and Blame Game is Meaningless
Being 100 percent responsible might seem scary to some. Most people don’t want to take responsibility because they confuse responsibility with fault and blame.
Did you ever experience this growing up…Something wrong happens, and your mother or father ( or both), are standing in the doorway, looming over you, and asking angrily, “Who’s fault is this? Who did this? Who’s to blame?”
Fault and blame are a made-up context having no validity at all. They are meaningless. When something happens, it means nothing more than something has happened. It’s no one’s fault, and no one’s to blame. However, this fact doesn’t mean we eliminate responsibility and being accountable for having created something. Rather it means it doesn’t come with being chastised and blamed.
Responsibility is All About Personal Power and Freedom
Within responsibility, lies our access to being an agent of cause in our lives. This is a bit different than causing something to happen. It’s more like having the power to stand for something in your life by being a certain way, and then it’s created in accordance with who you’re being. It’s called into existence because of the stand you’ve taken. What you want to have ends up being called into existence because of how you’re being. You are its source. You declare it to be so.
Your Access to Anything is Possible
It’s absolutely freeing to be 100% responsible for creating your life exactly as you
want it, because when you do so, along with the responsibility comes an endless
stream of possibilities. Responsibility gives you access to the context of Anything
is Possible, and that’s an amazing context from which to live! Totally Transform Your Life
There are the two “ways of being” that when engaged in, along with responsibility, will totally transform your life, and they are Being Attentive and Being Committed.
Just look around at your life—your bank account, your weight, your health, your relationships, your spiritual connection. What you’ve been paying attention to, and what you’ve been committed to, is what you’ll see as your life!
Your entire life is a reflection of where you put your attention, and what you’re committed to.
Since you’re always committed to something, make sure it’s aligned with your values and vision of what you want to create. Be defined by a Vision for Your Future, not by a Memory of Your Past.
When you know what you’re committed to, it makes it much easier to decide which actions to take, and what choices to make. It creates a road map that’s easy to follow, and presents choices that are yours to make. Choose wisely…it’s your Life!
